05 Jul Awards night uncovers new South Australian talent
ADELAIDE, Feb. 2, 2017 – The 2nd annual AMSRS Student Awards night was a big success and brimming with new, local marketing and market research talent.
The event, held in November last year and hosted by the South Australian division of the Australian Market & Social Research Society (AMSRS), was attended by local marketing and market research industry experts and educators. They were given the unique opportunity to connect with 8 Student Award finalists from Universities across South Australia and TAFE SA who showcased their work to those in attendance. “The AMSRS Student Awards have proven to attract the best students in market research” said Andris Versteeg, Customer Research Lead at SA Water, Chair of the South Australian division of the AMSRS, and organiser of the event. “The audience was very impressed with the quality of the students’ work and presentation skills.”
Further attesting to the quality of talent that the Student Awards uncover was the immediate interest of market research agencies in approaching finalists for their recruitment purposes. Three of the finalists have already secured either permanent or intern positions with market research agencies both in Adelaide and interstate.
One such finalist, Lozanne Pretorius, runner up of the Quantitative market research award, was offered a Marketing and Corporate Services Manager role at McGregor Tan following the event. “The 2016 AMSRS annual Student Awards night allowed for a significant turning point in my professional career”, said Lozanne. “Together with the other Award Finalists, I was very fortunate to have been given the unique opportunity to network with industry leaders and present my work to them. It’s an event I highly recommend to students interested in entering the market research field.”
Frank Pietraroia, winner of the Qualitative market research award, was offered a market research assistant role in Canberra. “The AMSRS student awards night was such a great event for my resume and it allowed me to meet likeminded students and graduates, further cementing the great community this industry fosters” commented Frank.
The event is not only beneficial to students looking to enter the market research field, but also to those industry leaders looking to employ top talent. “Most employers have to rely on standard recruitment processes to find talent, which comes with the uncertainty of finding the right person to fit our company culture” said Jaclyn Thorne, Director at McGregor Tan. “The Student Awards provides a unique opportunity to meet the best South Australian market research students, shortly before they enter the job market, giving employers the pick of the bunch”.
“The AMSRS Student Awards have continued to attract increased support and sponsorship from the local South Australian industry with many looking forward to the 2017 edition” added Andris. So, whether you are a student looking to get a foot in the door, an employer looking to recruit top talent or merely want to meet the new kids on the block, the AMSRS Student Awards night is one not to be missed.
